ABOUT THE ZINE

This zine was started in August 2023, and was intended to be a one-time project distributed around trans awareness week. However, the sponsor of the GSA decided that he wanted to produce a zine every year, and this site was created as a means of archiving past and future zines from the GSA!

WHY DID WE CREATE THIS ZINE?

Zines have been a part of queer culture for decades. From Homocore to the small online collaborations people do nowadays, zines have been a way to get around those pesky problems of corporations, bigots, and censors, and spread information and creative projects around queer communities that would have been intercepted by any other means.

The world can be a scary place. As a GSA situated in the U.S, we're more than aware of all the anti-trans bills coming out, and the attacks on trans healthcare that have become increasingly common across the states. Book bans are everywhere, and fear of trans people and the change they represent is high. So it's more important than ever that the voices of trans people be heard, and what better way than to make a creation about trans people?

WHO CAN CREATE ZINES?

Anyone! Zines are simply little collections of media that not created for profit, and are not subject to corportate opinion or censorization. A piece of paper folded up with a little drawing on each side counts as a zine! Zines are a great way to spread information, show off your creativity, or simply stave off anything, and the only requirement is that you don't allow yourself to be limited by the excesses of capitalism.
